Understanding the Merchandise Categories
I suggest reading the entire list through before deciding what category or categories are the best fit. We hope we've thought of a category into which all of our past merchants fit, but if something seems to be missing, please email the Merchant Coordinator and let us know.
- Armor / SCA Weapons
- If you sell armor, helms, basket hilts, rattan, or anything else needed for heavy list participation, you belong in this category.
- Real / Costume Weapons
- This category covers swords, knives, and any other weapons you can think of, except bows.
- Fencing Equipment
- This category is for both fencing weapons and protective gear. It could also include books, if you inventory is limited to or at least heavily biased towards books on the topic of fencing.
- Archery Equipment
- This category is for merchants selling things relating to archery - bows, arrows, fletching supplies, archery-specific leather goods, etc.
- Books / Research Materials
- This would cover books, magazines, CD's, etc. They should be primarily on subjects related to history, historical recreation, or crafts and skills practiced in the period we recreate.
- Culture-Centered Merchandise
- This category is for merchants whose focus is on things relating to a particular culture or limited time period, rather than on a functional category. If you specialize in Middle Eastern garb & accessories, or Roman, or Mongolian, for example, this is for you.
- Raw Materials - Garb
- This category would include fabric, trim, sewing notions, and patterns.
- Raw Materials - Fiber Arts
- This category covers yarns, spinning and weaving tools and supplies, embroidery materials, and similar arts.
- Raw Materials - Leather
- Leather goods by the piece or square foot, leatherworking tools, etc.
- Raw Materials - Jewelry
- Materials for jewlery construction, including beads, findings, metal smith tools, etc.
- Raw Materials - Other
- Materials and tools for crafts other than the ones I've listed above.
- Finished Goods - Garb
- If you sell primarily finished clothing, this is for you. Please put some detail about the time periods and/or cultures you supply garb for in the detailed merchandise description section of the form. This also includes non-leather accessories.
- Finished Goods - Jewelry
- Finished jewlery, including both metal pieces and bead necklaces.
- Finished Goods - Leather Goods
- Ready-to-wear leather goods - belts, pouches, garments, shoes, etc.
- Finished Goods - Other
- Any finished goods not covered by the categories above. Art objects would go here.
- Food (subject to site requirements)
- Please note that their are specific requirements from the site regarding food sales. Please read the section in the FAQ to see if you meet them.
- Non-Food Consumables
- This category is here to cover period items such as soap and spices. Herbs and spices are not considered foods for our purposes, as they are not usually consumed by themselves.
- Music
- This category covers both recorded music and instruments.
- SCA Life
- This is a catch-all for merchants selling items that are clearly SCA-related, but which don't fit another major category. This would include things like feast gear, candles, basic equipment for newcomers, etc.
- Services
- If you are selling a service, rather than an item this is for you. Soothsayers are a good example. Mehndi would be another.
- Other
- Use this category if none of the others fit. Provide details in the Detailed Description section of the form.
